Yon Family Farms
25th Performance Bull Sale
Ridge Spring, South Carolina
Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM

Another tremendous auction at the Yon Family Farms with standing room only and furious bidding from beginning to end on the bulls and females offered. Seven cow/calf pairs sold for $7,500 or more and 27 bulls sold for $8,000 or more. On a sad note, Cory Watt, American Junior Angus Association Chairman passed away 2 days before sale day after a 7 year battle with cancer. Cory grew up with the Yon kids and was really one of the family being Drake Yon’s roommate at Clemson. Fellow Junior Angus Board Member Daniel McFarland sang the national anthem and Fellow Board Member Will Fisk gave the invocation. Proceeds of the Lot 1 female were donated to the Cory Watt Scholarship Endowment Fund (thru Angus Foundation) and to the Watt Family. The cow raised $21,000 selling to Express Ranches and to a long list of contributors. If you would like to make a donation to the Endowment, contact Milford Jenkins, President Angus Foundation at the American Angus Association.

Replacement Female Sale
Simmental and SimAngus Genetics
Ranburne, Alabama
Saturday, November 8 at 11:00 AM CST
Sale Manager: Doug and Wendell Gibbs and Gordon Hodges
Auctioneers: Col. Mike Jones and Col. Ron Kreis
Had a great visit recently with Doug Gibbs viewing the sale cattle and they are loaded this year with high quality bulls for both the purebred and commercial breeder! The female offering just gets stronger and deeper each year and this will be without doubt the best selection of females ever offered at the Gibbs auction. A crowd favorite bull has been the Lot 1 SDS Graduate 006X son from a Rookie dam. He is 5/8 Sim 3/8 Angus with lots of power in an attractive package. The Sunbelt Expo bulls Lots 19 and 20 this year met strong appreciation and will be popular sale day. The female highlight will be the “Pick of the Herd” and includes the dams of such noted herd sires as Gibb Deacon, Gibbs Bullet Proof, Gibbs War Eagle, Gibbs Crimson Tide and Gibbs Raisin Cain. Excellent offering of open replacement heifers as well as a large group of bred heifers will be popular. Contact Doug 404-717-2264, Wendell 404-535-8663 or Gordon Hodges 336-469-0489 to discuss the sale offering.

Yon Family Farms Bull & Female Sale
Ridge Spring, South Carolina
Saturday, November 1, 2014
Auctioneer: Col. Mike Jones
A bazaar day started out with high winds and pouring rain with temperature in the upper 30’s. By daybreak the temperature dropped to low 30’s and the rain turned to snow. The ground was soon covered and temperature continued to drop. Around 9:00 am we lost power as the snow continued to accumulate. A wreck on I-20 had traffic blocked up and many folks headed to the auction were in traffic gridlock. Nearly a snow whiteout kept everyone out of the sale pens, cattle crowded together and humped up in an effort to protect from the weather. Pretty nerve racking as sale time approached. We had to postpone the auction for an extra hour as the power folks came to work on the power lines and to allow traffic to start moving on the interstate. Remember now we were in South Carolina and had not even had a frost. Had we been in Montana, North Dakota or Minnesota, this would have been nothing, but we were in South Carolina with no lights, computers down, no DVAuction internet service and 300 head of cattle with no one in the sale pens.

No one could predict at 10:00 that morning what a great success this auction was about to unfold. What started as a potential disaster turned into a banner day with a record auction for the Yon Family. 1.7 million gross!
