A huge crowd of over 500 people and 270 registered buyers plus numerous bidders and onlookers on the web at DVAuction.  As always, a great set of females sold receiving strong support from the buyers with the cow/calf pairs being in demand plus a superior set of bred heifers that sold at a strong $3,723.00 average.  82 two year old bulls sold with the top 50 selling for over a $4,000.00 average.  Cattle sold throughout the southeast at a steady pace with 30 bulls selling for $4,000.00 or more and the females consistently topping the $3,000.00 figure.

Edisto has enjoyed a long history of some 25 consecutive Forage Tested Bull Sales with record performance and record prices over the past history of this event.  The fewest bulls ever offered came through the ring this year with good acceptance from the modest sized crowd on hand.  Only 27 bulls were offered tested on a strictly forage ration with absolutely no grain.  The bulls were healthy, hard and lean ready for immediate service.

Bill Sarratt and Manager Cody Bright welcomed a packed house on a beautiful fall day to bid on and purchase a top set of Angus cattle.  Only 16 Angus female were offered this year but they met strong demand in the $2,500 to $3,000 range with a top of $3,800.00 on the Lot 1 BC Matrix daughter and her Final Answer heifer calf selling to Banner Farms in Tennessee.  Jac’s Ranch paid $3,800.00 to claim the Lot 14B SAV Bismarck bred heifer.  The bulls were hard and lean, off of a strictly forage ration.  Top bull was the lone SimAngus entry son of Star Power selling for $3,500.00.  The Lot 21 Emblazon son led off the bull offering and sold for $3,100.00 and then the Lot 28 SAV Bismarck son followed him and also sold for $3,100.00.  The bulls sold mostly in the $2,000.00 to $2,400.00 range with just a couple bulls selling under $2,000.00

The big buzz in the crowd prior to the auction was the excellent set of commerical bred heifers mostly bred A.I. confirmed safe to calve January 1, 2012.  The pens were full of prospective buyers before sale time and the bidding proved to be fast and furious.  The 30 commerical bred heifers sold for a strong $1,997.00 average!  Top price of $2,350.00 was paid for the last two commerical heifers to sell with the buyer sweeping the ring.  The commerical bred heifers were followed by a nice set of commerical open heifers that sold steady in the $900.00 to $1,000.00 range. 

Jeremy Haag represented the American Angus Hall of Fame as Sale Manager and Mike Jones served as auctioneer.
